There are two islands in the lagoon where you can enjoy birdwatching: Torcello and Sant\u2019Erasmo. On the island of Torcello\u2014a little gem nestled in the Venetian lagoon\u2014G&G has built a birdwatching hut on the bank of a canal with an unobstructed view of the beautiful stretch of water. Only traditional techniques and organic, compostable materials were used in its construction. The foundations rest on piles compacted with gravel, just as was done in ancient times. The entire structure is made of Cadore larch wood\u2014the same type of wood used to build Venetian palaces, which was transported from the mountains via the Brenta River all the way to the city center. The project was sponsored by a private individual particularly committed to the preservation and protection of the unique characteristics of the Venetian landscape. For this very reason, he provided schools with the opportunity to experience birdwatching, thereby allowing young people to learn about the lagoon environment and its biodiversity. Plants already common in the lagoon\u2014selected for their appeal to lagoon birdlife\u2014have been introduced into the garden surrounding the hide. These plants provide food for local wildlife and thus help increase biodiversity.<\/p>\n
